(NEW YORK) — Mitt Romney’s still mimicking Coach Taylor, even though Friday Night Lights creator Peter Berg told him to stop.
Tuesday night, Romney’s personal assistant snapped a photo of the Republican presidential candidate touching a “Clear Eyes. Full Hearts. Can’t Lose.” sign and posted it on Twitter, Romney’s campaign confirmed to ABC News. The palm slap is a nod to the ritual performed by the Dillon Panthers on FNL as they run out of their locker room and onto the field.
Berg’s probably not pleased. Last week, he slammed the GOP nominee for using the motto of his football TV drama in speeches and campaign signs, saying, “Your politics and campaign are clearly not aligned with the themes we portrayed in our series.”
He added, “The only relevant comparison that I see between your campaign and Friday Night Lights is in the character of Buddy Garrity — who turned his back on American car manufacturers selling imported cars from Japan.”
Not everyone associated with FNL agrees with Berg. Buzz Bissinger, who authored the non-fiction book that inspired Berg’s movie and TV series, voiced his support for Romney last week, telling The Hollywood Reporter, “He should be flattered that Romney is honoring his show. Obama tried to use the slogan as well but unsurprisingly was ineffective in getting the message across.”
